My belief is, the artist begins the work, but the viewer ultimately completes it.  What the viewer brings in terms of who they are, their views, attitudes, life's experiences etc. adds to the experience of the piece.  I have always felt that part of the experience of a work of art is the pondering of it.  Absorbing it.  The discovery of its meanings and mysteries.
